דקל פופולארי זה, המתפצל באופן טבעי למספר רב של גזעים והידוע ברחבי העולם גם כ"דקל הזהוב", מגיע אל עולם הגינון ממדגסקר, (אי המהווה מקור עשיר במיוחד להרבה זני דקלים המקשטים את הגינון בארץ), אך איקלם עצמו במרבית מדינות האזור הטרופי.
ה"ארקה" , כמו שהוא מוכר בארץ, אינו אוהב אדמה יבשה כאשר הוא שתול בגינה, אך בהיותו שתול בעציץ, אינו אוהב להיות מוצף מים. אוהב דישון קבוע המוסיף עושר לגוון הירוק זהוב של גבעוליו וגזעיו.
באזורים טרופיים גדלה ה"ארקה" בשמש מלאה עד לגבהים של 12 מטרים, אך בגינון הסובטרופי מעדיף הדקל מיקום מוצל למחצה, ובארץ הוא מגיע בתנאים אלו בגינון ל6-8 מטרים.

This popular clustering palm also known as the “Golden palm” is native to Madagascar though has acclimated itself almost everywhere from the tropics to the temperate indoor-outdoor gardening. It is one of the most cultivated plants in horticulture, being used mainly as a pot plant adding greenery indoors with its light green sometimes yellowish (golden) colorful foliage.
Needs lots of water in the ground but sparingly as a pot plant. Appreciates feeding as it adds to the gold coloring of its trunks and stamens. In the tropics I’ve seen it grow in full sun to 12 meters high, but in subtropical regions it rather likes semi shade warm spots, where I've seen it reach highs of 6-8 meters outside.
